For my second themeless, I wanted to build a puzzle with a big open middle and relatively low (70) word count. My seed was 37-Across, a 14 letter phrase that kept the middle from being a triple stack of 15s — best I can tell, it hasn’t been used in a puzzle from one of the main publishers. I’m not a huge fan of triple 15 stacks as a solver and while the entry adds a few more cheater squares, it provided a lot more flexibility in the fill. Given that decision, I decided this wasn’t a puzzle to submit anywhere.
